The Creality Ender 5 3D Printer is a relatively large model that offers all of the best features from their Ender series, while greatly improving on the structural stability and rigidity of the frame. However, because these designs are so similar, we skipped the Ender 4 and went straight to this beautiful Creality Ender 5 3D Printer, which not only includes all of the very best features from the Creality Ender 3 Pro, but also improves on the design of the Ender 4 as well – resulting in a finely crafted and refined model that is making waves amongst 3D Makers in both online and offline communities.

Additionally, and this is a factor that is certainly distinguishing Creality 3D from the plethora of other manufacturers on the market, Creality have even reiterated the design after receiving feedback from the first batch of Ender 5 3D Printers. And after getting reports of the bed slowly dropping over time due to the weight of the bed, Creality immediately integrated an anti-backlash nut, which has helped to maintain the bed height at precise levels so as to avoid any potential problems with Z-accuracy and Z-height consistency.


In a similar fashion to the large majority of Creality’s 3D Printers, this new design brings a few new features, while also catering to many of the minor faults or mistakes that were made on previous models. As such, if you have kept up with the somewhat questionable design of the Ender 4, you will be able to understand that there were a lot of ways in which Creality could offer improvements on their box design.

So let’s explore some of the new key features of the Ender 5, what kinds of benefits these features offer, as well as why we think they are good additions to Creality’s Range of models:

  • Z-Bed Design – Whereas most of the popular 3D Printers in the hobbyist space use a “Z-Head Design”, in which the hotend assembly moves up for each layer while the Bed moves along the Y-axis, the Ender 5 carries features a “Z-Bed Design”, in which the Bed is moved along the Z-axis as the layers change, while the hotend assembly moves along the X and Y axes instead. This results in smoother layer changes and less banding or wobble regardless of the height of the print, with more accuracy along the Y axes due to the fact that the Y-axis doesn’t have to move a heavy heated bed (with a lot of inertia) forwards and backwards.
  • High Precision Belt System – While some brands are still trying to get the H-Bot design to work consistently, and others are employing complex (and expensive) CoreXY designs, Creality have taken notes from the low-weight builds, but have given this printer an extra twist. The Y-axis, instead of being at the bottom controlling the bed, now controls the forward and backwards motion of the overhead gantry, on which the hotend assembly is mounted. Then, for the X-axis, a motor has been mounted directly onto the gantry on the edge, which controls the hotend assembly X-axis motion left and right. These two systems offer an impressive level of precision control and printing accuracy, since they are designed with as little extra weight and inertia drag as possible.
  • Ultra-Rigid Structure – If there was any kind of downside to the Creality Ender 5, it would be that it takes up a lot space. However, this large chassis size is very necessary for the design, and is certainly worth the extra space it takes up, since the rigid box shape offers the maximum stability and vastly reduced wobble compared to the single Z-axis cross-frame that other models feature. Additionally, despite the greatly increased amount of aluminium extrusion used for the frame, the cost has not been impacted in the same way, and Creality 3D have managed to produce this fine quality machine for much less than what we would have expected.

While there is certainly a lot more to say about the Creality Ender 5, these key features are the ones that stuck out most to us, and they are the features that make us feel like the Ender 5 is a good upgrade depending on what you’re looking for in a 3D Printer.
