FEATURES

Software

The Explore IoT Kit includes a 12 months free trial to the Arduino Create Maker Plan. Once the trial expires you will need to renew the subscription to the maker plan by going to this page. The Arduino Create Maker Plan included in the kit offers unlimited compilation time and extended access to some of the features of the Arduino IoT Cloud allowing teachers to run their classes with the certainty that they won’t find any limitation on them. If you don’t renew your Maker Plan subscription, you will be automatically downgraded to the Arduino Create Free Plan. This plan (Arduino Create Free Plan) offers lower compilation time per day, and limit the access to some of the features of the Arduino IoT Cloud, which means that only 3 out of the 10 activities of the kit can be completed with it.

The Explore IoT Kit includes access to an online platform with 10 exciting project-based learning activities, which introduce students to core concepts of IoT and challenge them to build real-world applications.

All learning materials include theory, building instructions, detailed illustrations, assembly animations, and code. The learning content is aligned with Computer Science Standards (CSTA).

The project-based learning activities include:

  • 0. Internet of Things An introduction to the IoT world
  • 1. Get to know the kit A lesson to learn about all the different components of the kit
  • 2. Graphing data in the cloud Learning how to show and analyse the data collected by the carrier
  • 3. Storing our data Introducing the use of SD memory cards to backup data
  • 4. Remote triggers Exploring how the carrier actuators work
  • 5. Home security alarm Creating a home security alarm that sends a message to the user and blinks a red light when the sensor detects motion.
  • 6. Classroom tracker Building a tracker capable of registering the amount of people that have passed through a door.
  • 7. Cloud vs Carrier game Creating a game that can be played by two players.
  • 8. Urban farming 101 Learning how to build a smart greenhouse.
  • 9. Greenhouse web server Learning how to create a web interface for your greenhouse.
  • 10. International weather application Learning how to use APIs.
