Addressable strips are not like the compatible Led strips that are widely available in the market, the addressable strips are based on "smart" LEDs which consist of addressable LEDs. A key feature of addressable tapes is that they have the ability to light up every 3 LEDs in a different color.
Addressable tapes can be operated solely by microcontrollers such as Arduino 8MHz or 16MHz. An Arduino Uno microcontroller can control up to 500 LEDs (without having other libraries loaded), if you wish to include other libraries in your project it is recommended to choose the Arduino Mega where it has a larger RAM memory. Interfacing with a microcontroller is simple and uses only one digital PWM pin. Each led group can be configured with 24-bit, 8-bit per color (red-green-blue).
To power the tape you will need a 12VDC source (battery or power supply), special attention for choosing the power supply is its intensity (Amp).
The tape is made of flexible material and can be cut with a pair of scissors per 3 leds. You can glue to the tape on the copper pads a cable (3 pads with a gap of 0.1"/2.54mm) and of course you can connect more than one tape together.
The addressable ribbons terminate in JST-SM 3-pin connectors, male on one end and female on the other. When you buy the whole package the tape comes with the two plugs on the respective ends, if you buy part of the package then there is a possibility that it will have one plug or none at all.
