The Wio-E5 Mini Development Board is a compact-sized development platform ideal for rapid testing and small-scale prototyping. It enables the design of efficient long-range wireless IoT devices with extended transmission capabilities.

This ultra-compact board offers extremely low power consumption and supports both (G)FSK and LoRa modulation. With built-in AT command firmware, it simplifies the development process for prototypes and applications. The board supports the LoRaWAN protocol and a variety of frequency plans, making it a strong candidate for long-range sensor nodes and diverse wireless communication scenarios. Whether you're deploying Wireless Meter Reading, IoT Nodes, or a Sensor Network, the Wio-E5 Mini Development Board is well-suited for low-power, wide-area IoT use cases. The Wio-E5 Mini Development Board exposes all GPIOs of the Wio-E5 (LoRa-E5) module, including UART, ADC, SPI, I2C, and more. It also includes RESET and BOOT buttons for added usability. Designed with long-range communication in mind, the Wio-E5 Mini Development Board features ultra-long-range transmission and ultra-low power consumption. It supports communication distances of up to 10km, and the sleep current of the onboard Wio-E5 module can be as low as 2.1μA (in WOR mode), making it highly efficient for battery-powered applications.

Since Wio-E5 is a LoRa chip with an MCU, there are three main ways to utilize the Wio-E5 Mini Development Board:

  • Connect board to PC via USB and control by AT commands: There is a built-in USB to UART function on board, you could just simply connect the board to your PC with a USB type C cable, and use serial communication software to send AT commands and read data from the board.
  • Connect board to another mainboard via UART and control by AT commands: For example, connect board to XIAO SAMD21 (Seeeduino XIAO) via UART, send AT commands and read data from XIAO board through Arduino IDE serial monitor.
  • User Application Development by using SDK: Develop your own LoRa development board with MCU function by using STM32Cube Programmer, which is the SDK officially provided by STMicroelectronics.
