TTL logic requires boards to operate at 5V logic levels, which was a standard for older microcontrollers and development boards. Even today, most sensors, development boards, and digital circuits run on a 5V power supply, allowing for easy integration with other circuits without the need for voltage shifting. However, with the advent of CMOS technology, most modern microcontrollers now operate at 3.3V logic levels, offering advantages such as lower power dissipation, faster switching, and higher reliability.

The 8-channel bi-directional logic level converter module is designed to shift 3.3V logic signals to 5V and vice versa. It is particularly useful for connecting older sensor circuits to newer, more powerful 3.3V boards like the Nano, BeagleBone Black, and Raspberry Pi.

For translating between 3.3V and 5V systems:

  • VCCA connects to the 3.3V power supply
  • VCCB connects to the 5V power supply
  • GND connects to the negative pole of the power supply; both power supplies must be common-grounded
  • When Ax receives a TTL 3.3V input, Bx outputs a TTL 5V signal
  • When Bx receives a TTL 5V input, Ax outputs a TTL 3.3V signal
